Is it a good practice to place scientists in charge of political issues when they only see one side of issues?

the last world leader that took this course of action was Adolf Hitler. He pick scientist based on political affiliation, not for having open minds. So is AGW going to lead us down the same road Hitler took? Is population control the solution or political purges of nonbelievers in store like Hitler did?
